Making a Difference for Each Patient

My passion for dentistry starts with each patient: I tailor treatment to a person’s specific concerns, and focus on long-lasting results and beautiful smiles. Every patient deserves to be a full participant in his or her care. It’s essential that the person understands what’s happening in the mouth, how it affects the body, and what can be done to improve the situation. Rather than dictating a particular approach, I work with patients to find and develop a plan that works for them. I want them engaged and knowledgeable!

I’ve been practicing dentistry for more than 40 years. I chose the profession because it allows me to combine science, technology, and art. It also allows me to spend time with people and build lasting relationships based on respect and open communication.

Working with a diverse community and caring for people of all ages keeps my days interesting. I enjoy learning about a person’s life and experiences, sharing stories of my own, and laughing with everyone. No two patients are the same, and no two procedures are the same; my days are filled with challenges and opportunities to help others.

Education and Continuing Education

My Doctorate of Dental Surgery was awarded by the University of Washington. I completed a general dentistry residency at Irwin Army Hospital and performed full-time oral surgery in the US Army for three years. For 31 years I served as a dentist in the US Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel.

I am committed to remaining up to date on advances in dentistry. The comprehensive skills I gain help me to treat more complex problems. After graduating from the residency program, my goal was proficiency in all areas of dentistry in order to meet all of my patients’ needs fully.

As a result of continuing education, I have:

  • Received the Fellowship and Mastership awards from the Academy of General Dentistry
  • Been awarded the prestigious Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition from the Academy of General Dentistry
  • Attained Mentorship status at the Kois Center for advanced didactic and clinical training in aesthetics, implant, and restorative dentistry; the role of a Mentor is to help train other dentists
  • Graduated and became a Fellow of the Misch International Implant Institute
  • Become a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
  • Graduated from and am a former instructor of the Progressive Orthodontic Seminars in southern California

Personal Life

I moved to the US from Canada when I was in grade school and graduated from Port Angeles High School. Federal Way has been home for almost 40 years. I’m proud to practice with my wife, Dr. Linda Edgar.

Linda and I have a son, who’s a pilot for Alaska Airlines. We also have two Golden Retrievers who love time at the beach! When we have free time, you’ll often find us on a beach in Hawaii or Florida.
